This dnd 5e healing word spell has no effect on constructs and undead. There is nothing wrong with that, it just is! I agree that a common mistake a see from novice players is, "I didn't take a healing spell because we already have a cleric." 5e makes healing ridiculously simple (IMO).

There's only two 1st-level healing spells, Healing Word and Cure Wounds (and Goodberry, I guess).Despite the fact that Cure Wounds heals more HP than Healing Word, the latter is the better spell during combat because it only uses a bonus action and has a range of 30 feet vs. Curse Wounds' touch range and action cast time. Healing Word allowing for an action is, IMO, strictly better than Cure Wounds under almost all circumstances.
